The game of Texas Hold Em poker is one of strategy and skill. Playing well requires solid knowledge of the poker odds, the ranking of poker hands, probability and of course being able to bluff your opponents.

A well seasoned Texas Hold Em poker player takes the above mentioned factors and more into account when making a decision to fold, check or raise their bet. One of the most critical factors in poker is being able to read your players and identify patterns in their betting, this way you have a chance of determining whether the player is bluffing or isn't. Reading players is most easily done by analyzing their eyes. The only down side to this is that many professional players have perfected their poker face and it's very difficult to pick out a bluff. Other poker players both amateur and professional wear sunglasses so other players can't read their eyes.

There are three kinds of Hold Em games. In Limit games, bets and raises are set at a fixed amount. Each round of betting is capped at a maximum number of raises, depending on the rules of the game.

In No Limit Hold Em, the maximum bet is determined by the number of chips you have in front of you. Players can bet and raise by any amount, and at any time, a player can go "all-in" by pushing all their chips toward the center of the table. To call, the other players at the table must push in all of their chips, up to the amount of their opponent's all-in bet.

Pot Limit Hold Em is similar to No Limit, except that the maximum bet is determined by the number of chips currently in the pot. This allows players to experience the excitement and strategy of No Limit Hold Em without the necessity of a large bankroll. Pot Limit games usually have a maximum buy-in to keep the game competitive.
